Developments in Competition Law during January 2022

 

In the month of January 2022, the Supreme Court upholds CCI’s investigation against agents and distributors of lotteries for indulging in bid rigging cartel. Further, it also upholds CCI’s investigation against tyre manufacturers for indulging in cartelisation. The CCI also passed several notable orders including:

  • penalizing maritime transport companies for indulging in bid rigging cartel
  • penalizing National Egg Co-Ordination Committee for indulging in anti-competitive practice.
  • ordering investigations against Google, IREL India and Chandigarh Housing Board for indulging in alleged abuse of dominant position.
  • imposing a penalty of INR 20 lakh on Investcorp India Asset Managers for gun-jumping.
